Amidst prevailing industry fears for some time now, that DVD sales and rentals were being affected by downloads and pirate copies, the news from Germany, one of the main international markets, is good.
In the first six months of the year, sales were up by 4% over last year selling over 47 million DVDs, a record for this period and 2.3 million up on last year. A whopping $762 m worth!. Blu-Ray is still the second runner to DVD though sales were three times greater than last year.
Rentals however were $1m down on last year at $170m, though Blu-Ray rentals were up five times on last year.
Biggest seller was, Quantum Of Solace, while biggest renter was, Body Of Lies.
